I bought a store-brand (refilled) color ink cartridge for my HP Officejet (7310xi All-in-One). When I installed it the screen gave a message saying HP Ink Depleted from Cartridge (specifically HP ink!). Obviously HP has put a smart chip in their cartridges to detect when their ink is depleted, meaning that it knows the cartridge has been refilled.

When I tried to print anything in color with that cartridge, the colors were screwed (mostly green). The message and poor print quality were both true on two different printers. So, this may just be a bad cartridge, and I will find out when I exchange it.

But… I’m wondering… does anyone know if HP has intentionally programmed their printers to NOT work with refilled cartridges, thus screwing us all and forcing us to by their own ridiculously overpriced cartridges?

I heard that this kind of cartridges use a smart chip which allow only authentic HP cartridges to be used. Can i solve the problem by installing different drivers for the printer?Or can i reset the ink level for cartridges from windows?I use Black 300 cartridge.

I know OfficeMax takes HP, Dell, Lexmark ink cartridges back for recycling and even give financial rewards. Is there a similar program for Brothers brand ink cartridges?

I noticed a lot of ink refill stations in the Malls and in commercial areas.

Do you refill the ink cartridges used by your inkjet printer ?

Thank you.

I’ve always just used the black ink cartridge side by side with the tri-color cartridge. Now I want to use a photo ink cartridge and I’m not sure how it’s supposed to fit in the printer… in the package, it’s not only the ink cartridge, but a little plastic piece for it to snap into. Little help, please? THANKS!
